Arjuna’s predicament of fighting against his own grandfather, Bhisma and his martial arts teacher, Drona, is the seed of Gita’s appearance. Essentially, this dilemma is the framework for Gita’s purpose – to help one face the realities in which a loved one is siding with adharma. Hence, contrary to popular belief, Gita is not a set of rules instigating Arjuna to combat against his enemies, rather a guide to help deal with deep and painful conflicts of life involving dear ones.
Naturally, it is easy to compromise with loved ones and duel against weak, bitter enemies. The internal strife, however, occurs when circumstances pushes us to fight against those we respect and love. Similarly, Arjuna’s distress was not attributed to challenging the likes of Dushyashana and Duryodhana, but due to battling against his dearest Bhisma and Drona. Arjuna was faced with making the correct and tough decision to duel against those whom he loved more than life itself. To help Arjuna reconcile between challenging his esteemed elders while maintaining his love and affection for them intact, the Bhagavad Gita appeared from the lotus mouth of Sri Krishna.
Simultaneously, the Gita harmonized the concepts war and peace, love and responsibility, action and destiny, winning and losing, life and death, compassion and punishment, and working while detaching from the fruits of one’s actions. The Gita teaches us the highest Dharma of surrendering unto the supreme Brahman while responsibly executing all our Dharmic duties.
Essentially, Gita appears as not as a magic genie, but as a manual to aid in transforming dreams into reality via a struggle that is not a burden but an yajna. Therefore, Sri Krishna integrated deep meditation and war on the battlefield as he declares to Arjuna, “You should always think of Me and at the same time carry out your prescribed duties of fighting. With your activities dedicated to Me, and your mind and intelligence fixed on Me, you will attain Me without any doubts.” (BG 8.7)
This is the beauty of Bhagavad Gita!

प्राचीन काल की बात है.  एक गांव में गुरूद्रूह नाम का एक शिकारी रहता था। जानवरो का शिकार करके वह अपने परिवार का पालन पौषण किया करता था । शिवरात्रि के दिन जब वह शिकार के लिए गया, तब पूरे दिन शिकार खोजने के बाद भी उसे कोई जानवर नहीं मिला, परेशान होकर वह एक तालाब के पास गया और तालाब के किनारे एक पेड पर अपने साथ पीने के लिए थोडा सा पानी लेकर चढ गया । वह “बेल-पत्र” का पेड़ था और ठीक इसके नीचे एक प्राकर्तिक शिवलिंग भी था जो सूखे बेलपत्रों से से ढका हुआ था जिसकी वजह से वह शिवलिंग दिखाई नहीं दे रहा था। अनजाने मे उसके हाथ से कुछ बेल-पत्र एवं पानी की कुछ बूंदे पे़ड के नीचे बने शिवलिंग पर गिरीं और जाने अनजाने में दिनभर भूखे-प्यासे शिकारी का व्रत भी हो गया और पहले प्रहर की पूजा भी हो गई। रात की पहली पहर बीत जाने पर एक गर्भिणी हिरणी तालाब पर पानी पीने पहुंची। जैसे ही शिकारी ने उसे मारने के लिए अपने धनुष पर तीर चढ़ाया हिरणी ने घबरा कर ऊपर की ओर देखा ओर शिकारी से  कांपते हुए स्वर में बोली- ” हे शिकारी मुझे मत मारो।”  शिकारी ने कहा – वह मजबूर है क्योकि उसका परिवार भूखा है इसलिए वह अब उस...
